After a week’s tests and monitoring we were extremely satisfied with the coverage and quality of the signal. Saint FM have therefore decided to commission the installation in Levelwood and permanently broadcast Saint FM in Hi-Fi Stereo in Levelwood. In July 2008 the Saint FM transmitter at Head O’Wain went into operation. This is the fourth installation on the Island. >> |
The other ones are in Jamestown, High Knoll and the Flagg in Levelwood.
The transmitter connected to our RDS system, which will change the frequency on RDS capable receivers automatically when the new station is giving the strongest signal.
Thus improving Saint FM's Island coverage to almost 100% with the new installation. |

Giving back - Becoming a Charity On the 1st March 2007 Saint FM and the St Helena Independent, through their owner company, St Helena Media Productions Limited, filed new articles of incorporation to the effect of making the corporation into a non-profit making limited company. It will be the first company of this type in St Helena and the new articles states that the owners of the company cannot lift any profits from the organisation and also that all surplus will be donated for charitable purposes. The background to this decision is that, as the media organisation with the highest listener and readership in the South Atlantic, the scope for it to help local charities in fund raising and promotional activities are considerable. >> |
A Consultative Board for the new company, with the task to scrutinise the allocation of funds and to allocate surplus will be appointed shortly. This Board will consist of a variety of people in St Helena with an interest in charity and community work. The main purpose of the company is to serve and help the community, charitable organisations in particular, without being a burden to the taxpayer. Saint FM and the Independent will continue to operate as presently, without outside interference into its editorial policies, its management and its development. The idea came about in November last year but as the company had certain liabilities which needed to be cleared before the process could continue, the launch date had to wait until, 1st March. >> |
St Helena Media Productions Ltd is budgeting for a break-even result for next financial year and with additional fund raising activities a considerable amount can be collected for the community. Several people and organisations have also shown interest in obtaining shares in the company to further support its efforts in serving Saints on the Island and abroad. The Director of the company, Mike Olsson, has agreed to continue as un-paid member of staff for at least another two years. The Chairperson of the Charity Commission, the Financial Secretary, Linda Clemett, said that "It is extremely encouraging to see this initiative by Saint FM that recognizes and supports the important work carried out by registered charities within the community". |
